Welcome, developers!
Some folks just have to be the first in line to get the latest whatzit. Whether it's a video game, a lifelike
doll, or an alternative-fuel vehicle, they simply can't resist the allure of state of the art. I'm not one of those people.
(Have you seen my cell phone?)
And when it comes to cloud computing, the same is true for many enterprises; although cloud may be an intriguing possibility,
they still see it as an untested and insecure frontier. Well, the good news is the early adopters have long since adopted,
and cloud computing is evolving to suit the needs of today's businesses. One facet of that evolution is the development of
the hybrid cloud environment, which effectively combines public and private clouds to provide appropriate
degrees of access along with dynamic scalability to manage demand.
This week on developerWorks, author Grace Walker takes you "Inside
the hybrid cloud." Part 1 of this article series lays out the fundamentals of the hybrid cloud and examines the
services that it makes available, as well as its effect on the way people are doing business. Who knows? Maybe it will inspire
you (or your organization) to make the move into the cloud. No need to wait in line.
But just in case, I recommend getting a decent smartphone.
Until next week,
John Swanson and the developerWorks editorial team
